I managed to get some free time one afternoon while I was in Sarnia Ontario and decided to head down to the water and work on some long exposure photographs under the Bluewater Bridge. As luck would have it the air had a beautiful misty haze that day and I was able to also make some photographs of the bridge itself in its hazy glory. As I was working on compositions I notice a large ship coming out of the fog on the lake and work its way towards the river channel. There was a very mysterious feel in the air and the silent and subtle movement of the ship through the fog had a “ghost ship” quality to it. It was worth stopping to watch. I grabbed my spare camera from my bag and started making a few photographs of the scene. I guess I wasn’t the only one captivated by the moment. It was a scene that demanded you stop and soak it up, as this gentleman was doing also. I don’t usually add people to my photographs but all lines converged to this moment and the photograph was already made for me. A documentary photograph of power, peace, and contemplation.
